Janae Johnson is a writer, performer, educator, curator and DJ originally from California. She received her BA in English from Virginia State University and her M.Ed in Educational Leadership from University of Delaware. Janae is the 2015 Woman of the World Poetry Slam Champion— as well as National Poetry Slam Champion. She is a Write Bloody Book Finalist and her poetry work(s) touched outlets and stages such as: ESPN, PBS NewsHour, SF Jazz, Lenny Says and Button Poetry. She is a founder of two nationally ranked poetry venues: House Slam (Boston, MA) and Root Slam (Oakland, CA). Prior to STYLE, Janae worked the Associate Director of Programs at Youth Speaks, Inc and spent 10 years working in higher education: multicultural affairs, student life and college athletics.
